Itineraries
Welcome to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos
Upon arrival at the Wattay International Airport, our guide and driver will be waiting to provide transport to the hotel for check in. After checking in, enjoy the remainder of the day free at leisure to explore Vientiane independently.
After breakfast, Begin the day on a guided city tour exploring some of the hidden charms of Vientiane.
Start the day with a hotel pick up (09:00 am). Head for the serene Wat Sisaket, one of the city’s most beautiful temples and the only remaining temple after the Siamese (Thai) invasion of 1828. Continue on to the nearby Wat Phra Keo, a temple-cum-museum which displays a collection of both Lao and Khmer works of art. Take note (from the outside) of the nearby Presidential Palace, offering a glimpse into the city’s colonial roots. Enjoy lunch at local restaurant. After Lunch, pay a visit to COPE, an association working to help landmine victims. A visit to the center provides in-depth information about the history of the American/Vietnam war and the lasting impact of unexploded ordinances (UXO) in the area and the efforts underway to clear them. The next visit of the day is to the holiest site in Laos: That Luang. Constructed by King Setthathirat in the 16th century, the temple is resplendent as the sun shines upon its towering golden spire. Wrap up the day with a visit to the Patuxay Monument, Laos’ version of the Arc de Triomphe. Overnight in Vientiane

Your guide greets you at your hotel in Vientiane at 8:30 am, followed by an hour-long visit to Xieng Khuan Buddha Park, located just 15 miles (25 km) from the city. Also known as Spirit City, the park was created in the 1950s by Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat, a shaman and priest. Today, the fanciful sculpture garden is a testament to his vision of a religion-themed park with more than 200 Hindu and Buddhist statues. Explore the park with your knowledgeable guide who will point out its top attractions, such as the 390-foot (119-meter) reclining Buddha. Whether they’re reposing or saving maidens in distress, the other statues of humans, gods and animals are just as captivating. One is even interactive: You can walk into a demon’s mouth and climb your way from hell to heaven! If you work up an appetite on the transcendent journey. Drive back to Vientiane. En route, stop at Mai Savanh to explore the traditional textiles of the Lao people. This shop specializes in high quality silk products and involves several families in their process, from the northern province of Luang Nam Tha Province and the southern provinces of Attapeu and Sekong. (Mai Savanh is closed on Saturday & Sunday). Overnight in Vientiane |
